What is it?

Charcoal is a form of carbon. The clever thing about it, is that it has thousands of small pores that vastly increase the surface area for absorption (ie. only a small amount absorbs a lot). The ‘Activated’ part refers to the fact that it has been heated up which turbo-charges its absorbing capabilities.

What does it do?

It is currently the single most useful agent for the prevention of absorption of orally ingested chemicals - specifically pesticides. Essentially it takes on the toxin itself. What’s interesting is that it is used in hospitals and by doctors if someone has orally ingested a poison. In fact the World Health Organisation has included it on its list of Essential Medicines. Pretty cool.

How do you use it?

It couldn’t be easier! When it comes to washing your fruit and veggies, add 1tsp of charcoal powder to a bowl of cold water and soak for 10-15 mins. Once you’ve done this rinse off thoroughly. Hey presto! Less chemicals and no break of the bank.
